Klimaetaten ønsker at resultatene fra denne anskaffelsen skal gjøre Oslo kommune bedre i stand til å vurdere klimakonsekvenser av ulike planleggingsalternativ og utbyggingstiltak i byggesonen – både på område-/detaljreguleringsnivå og byggesaksbehandling, gjennom mer finmasket informasjon om klimaegenskapene til ulike arealer innenfor byggesonen. Med klimaegenskaper menes både karbonlagring i vegetasjon og jordsmonn, og evne til klimatilpasning, inkludert temperaturregulering, overvannshåndtering og naturmangfold.
