Laboratory Information Management System

THE ROLE OF A LABORATORY INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEM IN NGC To assist with the tracking and handling of the samples (both regional and NGC samples) in the two laboratories, a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is to be implemented in production at each site. Each WGS facility is to install and run the LIMS independently from the other facility. The overall aim of the systems is to secure that the laboratories can plan, manage, document and assure quality of production, together with the tracking of samples, including their physical locations, reagents and so forth. The two separate LIMSs (one at each sequencing site) will contain NGC workflows (WF) that all NGC samples are to go through. These WF are to be similar between the two sequencing sites to ensure that the NGC samples are processed in a similar way regardless of the sequencing site. The WF will cover both WGS sequencing and DNA sequencing to identify Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs) within the sample, which functions as an internal control. Regional samples should go through separate WFs that are unique for each WGS facility. At each WGS facility the LIMS must encompass complete WF, from sample entry to either long term storage or shipping of sample (see Fig 2 in appendix 1). Lastly, each sequencing site also processes ad hoc sequencing and sample processing (e.g. a 4200 Tapestation measurement) either for the purpose of research or the testing of new kits etc. Although this is wished to be included in the LIMS, it is not a part of this tender, and is planned to be implemented at a later stage.
