Nuvarande biljettsystem har varit i drift sedan juli 2013. Under dessa snart sex år har inga större uppgraderingar eller investeringar i systemet skett. Det som tillförts sedan driftstarten är en tjänst för köp av biljetter via Internet, samt två nya kameror för avläsning av registreringsnummer. Utöver detta har anpassningar gjorts med hänvisning till nya Dataskyddsdirektivet (GDPR). Detta innebär att det nu finns ett stort ackumulerat behov av att modernisera systemet.
