DTU is planning to purchase a 3D printing system from BMF Precision, Inc., which fulfills the following specifications: - 3D printer based on Digital Light Processing (DLP) technology, with UV exposure of complete resin layers in a single flash of light with a pattern defined by a Digital Micromirror Device (DMD) - Top-down (or right side up) printing configuration - Possibility of printing of 3D structures on carrier substrates such as glass cover slides or Si wafers mounted on the build platform - x-y alignment of 3D printed structures to features prepatterned on carrier substrates - X-y optical print resolution 2 µm on a build platform size of at least 50 x 50 mm2 - Minimal print layer height (z-resolution) of 5 µm or less - Open-source system, meaning that all resins can be used and essential print parameters (exposure dose, timings, layer height, etc.) can be adjusted by the user in the software interface Reasons for the Direct Award: The microArch S230 printer is a unique system that allows the printing of structures with a resolution down to 2 µm. We have been looking for such a system for several years, and this is the first time we have identified some equipment that can meet our high demands, and which is also very good in terms of print speed. We already have 2 similar systems from the same supplier (model S140 and model S240) purchased in 2020 and it is by far the best we have seen. However, the two existing systems only have a resolution down to 10 µm, i.e. The S230 is even better in terms of precision.
