DTU Wind and Energy Systems studies atmospheric flow and its application for wind energy covering flow over terrain and flow around wind turbines and wind farms. We measure the flows by laser-based instruments that can measure the wind speeds remotely up to many kilometers from the instruments. These instruments are called Doppler lidars (Light detection and ranging) and when equipped with a system to steer the beam they are called wind-scanners. Several of those can be coordinated and synchronized to get more information about the flow. They can be used to scan the wake after a wind turbine and compare the results with computer models. DTU Wind now wants to supplement its aging fleet of wind scanners with a new wind scanner that can measure out to 5-10 km under good atmospheric conditions, typically at up to hundred distances simultaneously and at least once per second. In this way, not only the mean wind speed can be studied, but also some of the fluctuations which is also called turbulence. DTU may buy two of the offered wind scanners if the price is right and DTU has a balanced budget. Therefore, this procedure includes an option to also buy a second wind scanner.
