Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) analyzer is a powerful and versatile analytical characterization technique as it allows a detailed quantification of the elemental traces dissolved in a solution as a consequence of the electrochemical reactions with a high degree of accuracy in the order of mili-(and micro) gram per liter. The technique is based on the emission of photons generated by the relaxation of the excited atoms (and ions) from a high-energy state (unstable state) to its original state. The energy (or wavelength) of the characteristic photons is known and can be used for identifying the elements from which they originated. This equipment is going to be used as part of the ongoing research activities carried out in relation to corrosion and surface degradation issues of steels and aluminum alloys as well as the humidity-related reliability of electronic devices at the Section of Materials and Surface Engineering at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Technical University of Denmark.
